4. What’s the best way to acclimate my new guppies or platies to their tank?

Proper acclimation reduces stress and keeps your fish healthy:

  • Float the sealed bag in your aquarium for 15-20 minutes to equalize temperature.
  • Open the bag and add small amounts of tank water every 5 minutes for 20-30 minutes.
  • Gently net the fish into the tank without adding the bag water (to avoid contamination).

We include step-by-step acclimation instructions with every order.

6. How do I prevent common diseases in guppies and platies?

Healthy fish start with a clean environment and proper care:

  • Keep the water parameters stable: pH 6.8-7.8, temperature 72-80°F.
  • Perform weekly water changes of 20-30% and test ammonia/nitrite levels regularly.
  • Feed a varied diet of quality flakes, frozen foods, and live foods.

We also recommend keeping medications like Ich or fin rot treatments on hand—check our shop for preventative supplies.

7. Can you recommend good tank mates for guppies and platies?

Guppies and platies are peaceful and thrive with similar fish. Ideal tank mates include:

  • Mollies, swordtails, corydoras catfish, and small tetras like neon or ember tetras.
  • Shrimp and snails as clean-up crew members.
  • Avoid fin-nipping fish like tiger barbs or overly aggressive species.
